We look to the future – New Europe 100 challengers launch
Res Publica together with Google and the Visegrad Fund in cooperation with Financial Times and dozens of institutions from the region is launching the New Europe 100 project – a list of outstanding challengers from Central and Eastern Europe. New Europe 100 will be published for the first time in October 2014. The project was officially announced today.
NE100 aims to raise the profile of the world leading innovation taking place in Central and Eastern Europe as proved by 100 Challengers. In the aftermath of announcing the list (not a ranking) we will establish a network of challengers to enhance the voice of the future and most of all promote stories of #NE100 challengers. The aim is to identify 100 challengers as we want to distinguish not only obvious personalities and projects but also yet unsung heroes – says Wojciech Przybylski, editor-in-chief of Res Publica.
Since 1989, Central and Eastern Europe has become a place where big ideas are made possible. In the last 25 years, many countries – many of which are now new EU member states – have come a long way from political and economic oblivion to democracy and prosperity, a transformation led by outstanding people who have achieved the seemingly impossible. Now, we look to the next 25 years.
The New Europe 100 list is about individuals from Central and Eastern Europe who are changing the world and improving people’s lives with ideas that scale up in the digital world. It’s about those who, with their courage for innovation, new-tech expertise, unique skills, and social outreach, are having a global impact. This list is both about people and their big ideas. We will seek and bring together personalities whose actions drive them and drive us to a better future. They are people of diverse cultural and professional background. They may be e.g. business innovators, political challengers, social entrepreneurs or culture animators.
The selection process will be highlighted at key regional events, as well as through a global media partner coverage and by an ongoing social media campaign. In order to select nominees we will consult with institutions and trustees across the region, i.a. The German Marshall Fund of the US, Lech Wałęsa Institute, Global Lithuanian Leaders, Sofia Platform. The NE100 will be nominated by organizers, think tanks, public administration bodies, nonprofits and experts.
Starting in October 2014 we will spend the next year establishing a network of challengers in order to make the voice of the future be heard and above all introduce the NE100 challengers to the wider public. Res Publica has been partnering so far with conferences such as: European Forum for New Ideas in Poland where the list will be announced, Lennart Meri conference in Estonia, Forum 2000 in Czech Republic and Globsec in Slovakia. We plan to expand this network further inviting NE100 challengers to those high-level events as speakers or participants. Other activities planned are, among others, the NE100 Academy linking selected challengers with younger leaders and the NE100 Gala, where all the challengers would meet to discuss regional and European policies.

AGENDA
Official start: June
On May 29th, Project Sponsor – Wojciech Przybylski – talked about project idea at TEDxWarsawPresidentialPalace. It’s purpose is a call to action for people to engage in nomination process through social media. On June 4th Eric E. Schmidt, Google’s CEO, will officially launch the project.
Nomination: June
Nominating Partners will select 10 nominees who – in their opinion – should appear in the New Europe 100 list. Through a regionally targeted social media campaign we will encourage and generate more nominations.
Decision: July
Res Publica, Visegrad Fund and Google will select the final New Europe 100. This decision will be shared and consulted with Global Media Partner. We will take into consideration nominees chosen by our Nominating Partners, nomination through social media as well as the results of our own research.
Announcement: October
The final list will be announced on October 2 at a special gala hosted in a form of a Google Big Tent that will be part of the European Forum for New Ideas agenda. The latter conference is one of the key regional events gathering over 1000 top business representatives, policymakers and experts.
Follow-up and consolidating network: ideas for November 2014 – May 2015
After the announcement this project will develop further through a set of activities to consolidate the network.
NE100 Academy
NE100 will merge with Civic Academy (Lech Wałęsa Institute) to engage young leaders worldwide into the project by: familiarising them with the concept, meeting them with selected NE100 challengers.
Conference panels
We will propose and organise panel presentations by NE100 at international events and conferences.

Financial Times: Start-ups emerge from Eastern Europe
Patrzymy w przyszłość – rusza New Europe 100 challengers
Warszawa, 4 czerwca 2014 – Res Publica wraz z Google, Funduszem Wyszehradzkim, we współpracy z Financial Times oraz kilkudziesięcioma instytucjami z Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej, publikować będzie coroczną listę New Europe 100. Lista New Europe 100 zostanie po raz pierwszy ogłoszona w czasie Europejskiego Forum Nowych Idei w Sopocie w październiku 2014.
Istnieją światowe rankingi najmądrzejszych, najbogatszych i najbardziej wpływowych. Res Publica chce wskazać te osoby z Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej, które dopiero znajdą się na takich listach. Wyróżnia ich odwaga myślenia, pomysłowość, wyjątkowe umiejętności. Jesteśmy przekonani, że to właśnie te osoby i ich idee nadają lub będą nadawać kierunek zmianom na świecie – mówi Wojciech Przybylski, redaktor naczelny Res Publiki.
Res Publica, organizator New Europe, we współpracy z instytucjami partnerskimi z regionu (m.in. German Marshall Fund of the US, Instytut Lecha Wałęsy, Global Lithuanian Leaders, Sofia Platform) wskaże na najciekawszych liderów z Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej. W październiku 2014 wyłoniona zostanie finałowa setka. Po ogłoszeniu listy będziemy dalej pracować z naszymi challengerami, tak by ich głos, będący zarazem głosem naszego regionu, był słyszalny. Res Publica współpracuje z organizatorami najważniejszych konferencji, taki jak Europejskie Forum Nowych Idei w Polsce, konferencja Lennarta Meri w Estonii, Forum2000 w Czechach czy Globsec na Słowacji, na których brakuje takiego głosu. Odbędzie się również Akademia NE100, w ramach której wybrani liderzy będą mieli okazję spotkać się z młodszym od siebie aktywistami, pełniąc rolę mentorów. Cała setka będzie miała możliwość spotkać się w czasie Gali NE100 w 2015 r.
Nowa Europa jest wyjątkowym miejscem na mapie. To tu, w ciągu ostatnich 25 lat, nastąpiły wielkie przemiany polityczno-gospodarcze, wyznaczające demokratyczną wizję rozwoju społeczeństw. Warto o tym pamiętać. Ale jeszcze ważniejsze jest myślenie o tym, co w ciągu kolejnych 25 lat dopiero może się wydarzyć. W redakcji Res Publiki spoglądamy w przyszłość.
Dziś trudno jest nadążać za wszystkimi światowymi trendami i właściwie diagnozować to, co najbardziej istotne. Spośród wielu idei, które dzisiaj nas pasjonują, tylko niektóre po latach zostaną uznane za rewolucyjne. Dlatego zamiast próbować opisywać szerokie zjawiska i problemy, wolimy wskazywać na konkretnych ludzi i ich historie. Naszych stu challengerów pochodzić będzie z różnych rejonów Europy Środkowej, z różnych środowisk zawodowych, ale połączy ich jedno – potencjał zmiany naszego życia na lepsze. Nominowani odznaczają się odwagą działania: godząc się na okazjonalne porażki, pragną – przede wszystkim – osiągnąć sukces i pozostawić trwały ślad.

Start projektu: czerwiec
Projekt New Europa 100 został zaprezentowany przez Wojciecha Przybylskiego, organizatora projektu, szefa Res Publiki, w czasie TEDxWarsawPresidentialPalace. 4 czerwca w Warszawie projekt oficjalnie zainaugurował Eric E. Schmidt, prezes wykonawczy Google.
Nominacje: czerwiec
Partnerzy Nominujący zgłoszą po 10 propozycji osób, które ich zdaniem powinny znaleźć się na liście New Europa 100. Dodatkowo challengerów będzie mógł nominować każdy poprzez narzędzia udostępnione w mediach społecznościowych.
Decyzja: lipiec
Organizator projektu – Res Publica wraz z Google i Funduszem Wyszehradzkim wybiorą finałową setkę. Decyzja będzie konsultowana z partnerem medialnym. Będziemy brać pod uwagę kandydatów zgłoszonych przez Partnerów Nominujących, nominacje pochodzące z mediów społecznościowych, a także na podstawie researchu zespołu Res Publiki.
Ogłoszenie listy: październik
Lista New Europa 100 zostanie ogłoszona 2 października w czasie Google Big Tent podczas Europejskiego Forum Nowych Idei w Sopocie. To jedna z najważniejszych konferencji w regionie. Uczestniczy w niej ponad 1000 przedstawicieli biznesu i polityki.
Kontynuacja projektu: listopad 2014 – maj 2015
NE100 Academy
NE100 połączy siły z Akademią Obywatelską (Instytut Lecha Wałęsy), by zaangażować w projekt młodszych liderów i umożliwić im spotkanie z challangerami listy New Europa 100.
Konferencje
Zaproponujemy i zorganizujemy dyskusje panelowe, w czasie których będziemy prezentować listę New Europe 100, a przede wszystkim angażować wybranych challengerów do udziału w kluczowych wydarzeniach w regionie.
NE100 Gala Meeting
Finałowa setka będzie miała możliwość spotkać się i wspólnie porozmawać o kluczowych kwestiach dotyczących naszego regionu.
